The election commission for the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology student union elections announced the election schedule on Sunday, setting December 17 as the voting day.

Chief election commissioner Abul Mukit Mohammad Mukaddes announced the schedule for the Shahjalal University Central Students’ Union and hall union elections at a press conference held at the election commission office at ICT Building on the campus in the afternoon.


According to the election schedule, the draft voter list will be published on November 20, complaints regarding the draft voter list will be accepted till November 22, and final voter list will be published on November 23.

Nomination papers will be distributed on November 24, submission of nomination papers will be in November 25–26, scrutiny of the submitted nomination papers will take place on November 27, and the list of valid candidates will be published on November 28, according to the schedule.

The deadline for withdrawal of candidacy has been set at November 30, while appeals and resolution regarding candidacies will be held on December 1, and the final list of candidates will be published on December 2.

On the voting day on December 17 , ‘voting will continue from 9:00am to 4:00pm,’ the chief election commissioner said.

He also said at the press conference that counting of votes would be done using the Optical

Mark Recognition system and the vote count would be displayed through LED display.

On the other hand, the SUST unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student organisation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, submitted a memorandum to the university vice-chancellor Professor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury about noon, pressing for a four-point demand.

Their demands include ensuring coexistence of all student organisations on the campus.

A section of students, however, held a press conference under the banner of ‘general students’ at 2:00pm on the campus, demanding the SUCSU polls within December 10.
