The police recovered the hanging body of a female student of Rajshahi University from a rented flat in the Mirzapur area near the university campus on Wednesday morning.
She was found hanging from a ceiling fan, said the police.
The deceased was identified as Sonia Sultana, 24, a 2019–20 session student of the university’s education and research institute.
She had been living with her family at a flat of Islam Tower.
Her father is a retired government employee.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of the Motihar police, said that on information, they recovered the body from a flat on the seventh floor of Islam Tower on Wednesday morning.
‘She used a scarf to hang herself with a ceiling fan. The primary investigation indicates suicide,’ he said.
The police official added that they also recovered four handwritten suicide notes in her room.
‘Sonia requested in her notes that no autopsy be conducted, and her family agreed. Accordingly, the body was handed over for burial,’ he said, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the police station.
One of her notes read, ‘No one is responsible for my death. Please do not conduct a post-mortem. Amma, Abbu, Dhrubotara, I love you all dearly. Please forgive me. Tell Allah to forgive me.’
Another note said, ‘I have suffered greatly, Maa. How will I endure the torment of the grave? Tell Abbu to stay near my grave. May Allah forgive me.’
In two other notes, she wrote, ‘Amma, Abbu, please forgive me. I could not do anything for you. I had many dreams, Maa, but I failed. Please pray that Allah forgives me,’ and ‘I really wanted to live, believe me. But I could not keep fighting with myself anymore.’
Rajshahi University proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman said that they had visited the spot, but the reason behind her death was still unclear.
