
The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia suspended five of its students over vandalising a bus in the campus area in January this year.
Two students received one-year suspension, while the rest three were suspended for six months.
Shahriar Nazim of biotechnology and genetic engineering department under 2019–20 academic session and Mostafizur Rahman Sayem of marketing department under 2021–22 academic session received one-year suspension.
Abdul Mannan Luman, Syed Sajid Hossain, and Takbir Hasan Hridoy, all marketing department students under 2021–22 academic session were slapped with six months’ suspension.
The decision, signed by IU acting registrar Professor Dr Manjurul Haque through three separate office orders, was approved at the university’s 270th syndicate meeting held on the campus on August 28.
Three office orders, signed by IU acting registrar Manjurul Haque, were issued in this regard on Saturday.
The incident occurred on January 22 when students stopped a bus belonging to SB Paribahan at the main entrance of the university over allegations of misbehaviour by its supervisor.
During the standoff, several students vandalised the bus.
A four-member investigation committee was formed, and after reviewing its findings, the syndicate decided on the suspension.
The affected students have been officially notified, said officials concerned.
