Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology hosted its first-ever ‘Zero Wastage Denim Exhibition’, featuring innovative garments crafted entirely from recycled denim waste.

The exhibition, organised by the university’s apparel manufacturing management and technology department, demonstrated how discarded fabric scraps can be transformed into stylish, high-quality clothing, said a press release.


Held at the Creative The Art Gallery on SMUCT campus in Dhaka’s Uttara on Saturday, the event highlighted the potential of eco-conscious fashion in Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving apparel industry.

Professor Mostafizul Haque, chairman of SMUCT’s board of trustees, and painter, emphasised the importance of sustainability in fashion at the event.

The exhibition showcased student creations made from old denim and industrial waste, promoting zero-wastage techniques and sustainable design practices.

The event featured a panel discussion with prominent industry figures, including Arif Labu, co-founder of Ruhrose RBT, Tanvir Ahmed, managing director of Saudan Clothing, and Munir Chowdhury, BGMEA-SCICIP chief coordinator.

SMUCT registrar Par Mashiour Rahman, artist professor Shishir Kumar Vattachachga, design and technology faculty dean, AMMT department head Farzana Mita, and assistant professor Rajib Das, course module instructor were present.
