A meeting on academic–technical collaboration between the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation and the Bangladesh Medical University held at the conference room of the Super Specialised Hospital of the BMU in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, modernisation of medical education and possible joint collaboration in research, said a press release.


BMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam was present as chief guest while Professor Rahil Qamar, head of science and environment sector, ISESCO, Rabat, Morocco, was present as special guest at the meeting.

The meeting began with the welcome address of Professor Dr Md Atiqul Haque, chairman of the department of public health and informatics and dean of the faculty of preventive and social medicine, BMU.

This was followed by a presentation on ‘the future of medical education with human resource development for AI-related activities and research.

Professor Rahil Qamar spoke about the potential of AI in future medical science.

Later, the deans and academicians of various faculties of BMU presented their views.

In his closing remarks, Professor Shahinul Alam said, ‘We are sincere in developing skilled human resources in AI-based medical services, robotic surgery and rehabilitation services.’

He emphasised on launching joint research, student-teacher exchange, training workshops, PhD and scholarship programmes with the ISESCO.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Dr MA Shakur, chairman, department of physical medicine and the chairman of the concerned committee.
