The authorities on Monday announced that the elections to the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union would be held on September 15.
This marks the first such polls since 1989, though RUCSU elections are meant to be held annually.
RUCSU chief election commissioner Professor Md Amzad Hossain announced the election date while unveiling the electoral roadmap at a press conference at the university’s Senate Building in the afternoon.
According to the schedule, the code of electoral conduct will be published on July 31, and the draft voter list will be published on August 6.
The final voter list will be published on August 14, following a scrutiny between August 7 and August 12.
Nomination papers for interested candidates will be distributed between August 17 and August 19, and candidates will be able to submit the nomination papers between August 21 and August 25.
Following verification, the preliminary list of candidates will be published on August 31.
The candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until September 2, and the final list of candidates will be published on September 4.
Professor Amzad Hossain said that necessary measures were being taken to ensure a free and fair election.
‘We have already communicated with law enforcement agencies and other university bodies. They have assured us of full cooperation to maintain a peaceful environment until voting is completed,’ he said.
