The Eastern University held a freshers’ reception for the summer 2025 students on the EU campus in Dhaka on Saturday.

Presided over by EU vice-chancellor Professor Farid A Sobhani, group managing director of Rahimafrooz Bangladesh Limited Niaz Rahim was present as chief guest at the programme, said a press release.


The event was also graced by the presence of the guest of honour, Md Maniruzzaman Molla, chairman of the board of trustees, Eastern University.

Engineer Khondker Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, former EU BoT chairman, delivered a speech as a special guest.

The ceremony began with a welcome speech by the university’s registrar Abul Basher Khan.

Other notable speakers included Professor Md Shamsul Huda, treasurer; Professor M Sayedur Rahman, dean of the faculty of business administration; Professor Md Mahfuzur Rahman, dean of the faculty of engineering and technology; Professor Firoj Ahmed, adviser to the faculty of life science; ABM Imdadul Haque Khan, dean of the faculty of law; and Rofiussan, chairperson of the department of English.

The speakers emphasised that along with academic excellence, students should also focus on building strong moral character, noting that students must be prepared to become honest, competent individuals capable of meeting the demands of the modern era.

During the event, new students were introduced to the university’s academic structure, facilities, and important aspects of campus life, all of which will play a significant role at the beginning of their academic journey.

The closing remarks were delivered by Abu Bin Ihsan, chairperson of the department of pharmacy and convener of the Freshers’ Reception Organising Committee. He thanked all the guests and participants and officially declared the conclusion of the event.

The reception concluded with a cultural programme organised by the university’s Cultural Club, where Eastern University students showcased their creativity and talent.
