
Bangladesh Medical University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam at a seminar in Dhaka on Monday said that the use of artificial intelligence in medical science was inevitable.
‘One cannot stay away from AI in any way. The departments of Bangladesh Medical University will have to take initiatives as per the need and ensure the use of AI,’ he said while delivering speech as chief guest at the seminar titled Artificial Intelligence in Medical Science: Today and Tomorrow at the A Block auditorium at the BMU, said a press release.
The university administration will provide necessary support in this regard, he said, adding, ‘AI can play a huge role in making the activities of various departments, including pathology, radiology and oncology easy, dynamic and perfect.’
In his special guest speech at the seminar organised by the University Central Seminar Sub-Committee, pro-VC for administration Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad said, ‘There is no way out without AI. If we cannot catch up with AI, medical science will lag behind. Through the use of AI, diseases like cancer can also be identified early. Therefore, there is no way to deny the importance of AI.’
Pro-VC for research and development Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader said, ‘BMU and BUET are ready to work together to ensure the use of AI in Bangladesh Medical University.’
An AI-based Robotic Rehabilitation Center has already been set up in BMU’s Super Specialised Hospital. In
Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar said, ‘The importance of artificial intelligence in disease diagnosis, testing, and medical services is immense. The contribution of AI in various branches of medical science is recognised worldwide today.’
BMU syndicate member Professor Dr FM Siddiqui presented an article titled Artificial Intelligence: The Landscape in Clinical Medicine as the keynote speaker at the central seminar.
