The Eastern University marked the anniversary of the July uprising with a discussion and documentary screening at the EU in Dhaka on Monday.

The event was presided over by the EU vice-chancellor Professor Farid Ahmed Sobhani, while Bangla Academy president Professor Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Haque delivered the keynote address as chief guest, said a press release.


The founding chairman of the university, Abul Kashem Haider, spoke as special guest. Eastern University treasurer Professor Md Shamsul Huda, registrar Abul Bashar Khan, and others also delivered speeches at the programme.

The speakers emphasised on building a society free from discrimination and corruption by utilising the goals of the July uprising.

The speakers at the event remembered the sacrifice of martyrs, including Abu Sayed and Mugdho.

The event was moderated by associate professor Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, convener of the programme implementation committee and chairperson of the department of business administration. The overall supervision of the event was given by KM Monirul Islam, deputy director of Career Services and Student Affairs.

Deans, chairpersons, teachers, officials and employees of various faculties of the university were present at the event.
