A seminar on ‘the role of Carol Ann Egan Fund and Gonoshasthaya Kendra in women’s education’ was held the Gono Bishwabidyalay of Savar in Dhaka on Sunday.

Gono Bishwabidyalay vice-chancellor Professor Md Abul Hossain presided over the seminar, said a press release.


Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury Archive director Professor Monsur Musa was present as keynote speaker at the seminar.

Among others, Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Sandhya Roy, Dr Manjur Qadir Ahmed, Gono Bishwabidyalay treasurer Professor Serajul Islam, dean of the faculty of arts and social sciences Professor Nilufar Sultana, registrar Md Ohiduzzaman and

Carol Ann Egan Fund project director Anjan Kumar Mitra also spoke at the event.

At the seminar, a total of 140 students from eight departments of different sessions of the university were awarded scholarships from the Carol Ann Egan Scholarship Fund.

Canadian citizen Carol Ann Egan came to Bangladesh in 1972 as a volunteer of the Canadian University Service Overseas for the physical rehabilitation of freedom fighters injured in Dhaka. Later, she got involved in the development of women’s leadership at the local level in Bangladesh.

After her death, she donated some of her accumulated money to the development of women’s education. From that money, 180 scholarships will be awarded to female students of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and Gono Bishwabidyalay in a total of 900 students in five years, added the press release.
