
Professor Farid A Sobhani joined the Eastern University as its new vice-chancellor on Saturday.
Prior to this role, Professor Sobhani served as professor at the school of business and economics and director of the Centre for International Affairs and Cooperation at United International University, said a press release on Sunday.
He also held the positions of professor and dean at the Human Resource Development Institute of Daffodil International University, and professor and dean at the faculty of business studies, International Islamic University Chittagong.
Additionally, he served as director of the MBA programme at the school of business and economics at the UIU.
Professor Sobhani currently serves as a visiting professor at Sol Plaatje University, South Africa; and a research fellow at the Australian Academy of Business Leadership in Sydney.
He also serves as president of the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics and vice-president of the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organisations.
He served as a visiting professor at the Accounting Research Institute of University Technology MARA, Malaysia.
He has also served as an external member of the curriculum committee at Rajshahi University and the PhD programme committee at the Bangladesh University of Professionals.
He held the position of editor of the Australian Journal of Accounting, Economics and Finance, published from Sydney.
Professor Sobhani holds a BBA and MBA in accounting from the University of Chittagong, a second master鈥檚 in project management from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and a PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
He has published nearly 100 research articles in national and international journals covering accounting, corporate disclosure, human resource management and leadership.
Professor Sobhani鈥檚 appointment was celebrated in a reception ceremony held at the university鈥檚 conference room.
The event was graced by the chairman of the board of trustees, Md Moniruzzaman Molla; former acting vice-chancellor, Professor Md Shamsul Huda; treasurer, deans, chairpersons, advisers, registrar, and other senior officials.
