The police rescued a teenage girl from her aunt’s residence at Dakshin Surma in Sylhet city on Friday night, 25 days after she had been kidnapped from Srimangal in Moulvibazar.

Srimangal police officer-in-charge Md Aminul Islam confirmed ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they recovered the 15-year-old victim from the rented house of her aunt Shilpi Sarker alias Shilpi Begum in Dharadhar Pur area under the Dakshin Surma police in Sylhet city.

He said that Shilpi Sarker and her husband Mobarak Miah were also arrested for their involvement in kidnapping the victim.

The police officer said that Shilpi Sarker converted to Islam and got married to her fiancé Mobarak about two years ago.

He said that Shilpi and her husband allegedly picked up the victim in a car in the night of September 29 while she was returning home after attending the Durga Puja celebration at the temple on RK Mission Road at Srimangal.

‘Since then, Shilpi had kept Rima confined in their Sylhet home, not allowing her to go to her parents,’ the police officer said, quoting the victim.

The victim’s father filed a case with the Srimangal police against three people, including Badrul Alam, 25, of Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj upazila, after the victim had disappeared.

The police earlier arrested Badrul and his friend Shahid in the case but failed to extract any information regarding the victim’s whereabouts.

‘After tracking mobile phone conversations of the victim’s relatives, we became sure about her location and then recued her Friday night,’ the police officer said.

Responding to a query, he told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday evening that they were conducting investigation to ascertain the motive behind the abduction.

‘We produced Shilpi and her husband in the district judicial magistrate in the afternoon, showing them arrested in the case. The court ordered for sending them to jail,’ the police officer said. Â
