
The BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology organised a two-day event to mark World Environment Day 2025 concluded on the university campus in Dhaka on Sunday.
The event was organised by the department of environmental science in collaboration with the BUFT Science and Environmental Club under the theme Ending Plastic Pollution, said a press release.
The event began with an awareness rally and clean-up campaign, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and senior officials, including BUFT acting vice-chancellor Professor Ayub Nabi Khan; treasurer Professor Md Alamgir Hossain; Professor Md Abdul Jalil, dean of the faculty of science and textile engineering; Professor Sirajul Karim Choudhury, dean of the faculty of engineering studies; Md Mohibul Islam Khan, head of the department of natural science; and Mohammad Shohrab Hossain Sarker, head of the department of environmental science.
Participants marched through the BUFT campus and surrounding areas, concluding with a clean-up drive along the Turag River, where volunteers collected plastic waste and raised awareness among local communities about sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
The concluding day featured a seminar titled Empowering the Next Generation to Beat Plastic Pollution, with keynote speeches by KM Abdullah Al Mahmud, director general for finance and budget, joint secretary, BEZA; Professor Muhammad Mohiuddin, department of international business and global strategy, Laval University, Quebec, Canada; and Nepal Chandra Dey, managing director, Research and Entrepreneurship Development Limited.
