Bangladesh’s acting ambassador to Russia Faisal Ahmed, who was holding the post of chargé d’affaires, has been recalled and asked to report to the foreign affairs ministry immediately apparently for his Facebook comment criticising the ministry’s administrative activities.
Through a separate official order issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assigned Md Niaz Morshed as the acting chargé d’affaires until further order.
‘Until further notice, Niaz Morshed, counsellor (political) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Moscow, Russia will act as CDA at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow with effect from May 27, 2025,’ said the order signed by director general (administration) Md Abul Hasan Mridha.
Officials confirmed that Faisal Ahmed was ‘stand released’ and was asked to return to Dhaka without delay for making ‘controversial comment’ about the foreign ministry’s administrative activities, terming the ministry’s present situation over the appointment of a new foreign secretary ‘messed up’.Â
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 22 made Md Ruhul Alam Siddique acting foreign secretary until further notice as foreign secretary Md Jashim Uddin declined to carry on his present responsibilities on personal ground.
Faisal criticised the interim government’s reported decision to appoint Bangladesh’s ambassador to the United States, Asad Alam Siam, as the new foreign secretary.
