The Election Commission is set to grant final registration to six new political parties, including the National Citizen Party, following the completion of their field-level verification and documentation.
According to sources at the commission, 22 parties had been shortlisted for registration.
After a thorough scrutiny, six of them have been recommended for final approval.
The six parties are the NCP, Aam Janatar Dal, Jonotar Dal, Bangladesh Aam Janogoner Party, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party, and Bangladesh National League.
The paperwork for these parties was finalised by the relevant EC department on Sunday while the file was scheduled to be placed before the commission for approval on Monday.
Once approved, a public notification will be issued, officially revealing their registration.
The EC reserves the right to add any party to or exclude any party from its list before issuing the final notification, officials said.
At present, 51 political parties, including the Bangladesh Awami League, are registered with the Election Commission.
The Awami League’s registration has recently been suspended as the government imposed ban on the activities of the party.
