
Two murder cases were filed against deposed prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and AKM Mozammel Haque and 800 unnamed people in Gazipur Tuesday night.
The cases were filed with the Kaliakair police station accusing them of killing two youths — Abdullah Al Mamun, 20, son of Jahangir Alom of Andarmanik village of Kaliakair and Hafizul Islam Gazi, 25, son of Shahidullah Gazi of Naogaon village in Maymenshing — during the student-led mass uprising in front of Safipur Ansar Academy in Gazipur on August 4, 2024. Â
Gazipur superintendent of police Chowdhury Md Jaber Sadek confirmed the matter on Wednesday.Â
In complaint alleged that Hafizul sustained critical bullet injuries as their procession came under gun attack in front of gate 3 of Ansar Academy in the afternoon of August 4, 2024. Many people were also injured in the attack.
Locals rushed Hafizul to Kumudini Medical College Hospital in Mirzapur, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 5.
Eleven months after the incident, Hafizul’s elder bother Abdul Hamid Gazi filed a murder case against 17 people, including Hasina, Obaidul Quader, AKM Mozammel Haque, Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad president Talha Bin Oli and Sagir Ahmed and 400 unnamed individuals.
Meanwhile, Nayan Mia, friend of deceased Abdullah, filed another case with the Kaliakair police station for killing Abdullah, who was gun injured in the same spot and was admitted at Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College, Gazipur. Later his family found the body there on August 5, 2024.
In the case, Hasina was made prime accused while Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman and 400 unnamed individuals were also made accused in the case. Â
