Immigration officials at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday afternoon barred Bangladesh Jatiya Party chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho’s wife Sheikh Shaira Rahman and youngest daughter to go to Thailand.
Andaleeve said that his wife and daughter were barred from going to Thailand by immigration officials at the HSIA at about 1:30pm on Tuesday.
‘I think that my wife was barred from going to Thailand as she is a member of the Sheikh family. We don’t know about the clearance issue. They were going to Thailand for travel purposes. As we respect the country’s law and order, my wife and daughter will go aboard after taking necessary permission,’ Andaleeve told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Andaleeve’s wife Shaira is a daughter of Sheikh Helal, cousin of ousted Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Police’s Special Branch senior officials could not be reached for comment over the issue.
In the early hours of May 9, former president Mohammad Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Bangkok for medical treatment by a flight of Thai Airways from the HSIA.
The departure of Hamid, who is named in a case lodged on January 14 with the Kishoreganj police station over alleged attacks on protesting students during the July-August mass uprising past year, drew protests and criticism.
Following his departure, the Bangladesh Police withdrew the Kishoreganj superintendent of police and an additional superintendent of police for immigration in Dhaka from their workplaces.
The police headquarters in a press release said that they also suspended two officials, including the investigation officer of the case against Hamid and a special branch official.
It said that the police formed a three-member probe committee led by the additional inspector general of police for administration to investigate the departure of Hamid from the country.Â
