The Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Thursday at a press conference rejected the deals and memorandum of understandings signed between the government of Bangladesh and the Indian government during the recent two-day India visit of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Mancha rejected the deals and the MoUs at the press conference held at the central office of the Rashtra Sanskar Andolan in the capital.
Zonayed Saki, coordinator of the Mancha and also chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolan, read out written speech at the conference.
He termed the deals and the MoUs signed between Sheikh Hasina and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi as unequal and contrary to the sovereignty and national interests of the country.
According to the deals, India wants to establish conducting capacity of Mongla Port and getting railway transit in Bangladesh, mentioned Saki.
He also called on the opposition political parties to be vocal and wage movements to compel the Awami League government to scrap the deals.
The Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the AL government had performed the deals without upholding sovereignty and national interests of the country.
The government has also failed to get justified water sharing of the 54 common rivers, including Teesta, between the two countries, Manna said.
Demanding the publication of the deals, the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq expressed dissatisfaction over the issue of killing Bangladeshi people by the Indian Boarder Security Force in border areas.
Even after the visit of Sheikh Hasina, the killings are continuing, pointed out Saiful Huq.Â
The AL government has performed the deals to satisfy the Indian government for remaining in power without the mandate of the people of the country, mentioned Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, convener of the Bhashani Onusari Parishad.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD central leader Kamal Uddin Patwari said that the people would not accept the unequal deals contrary to the national interests of the country.
Hasnat Quaiyum, chief coordinator of the Rashtra Sanskar Andolan, demanded discussion on the deals and MoUs in the parliament.
Mancha will hold a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on July 5, Friday morning demanding cancellation of the deals.
