
The Dhaka North City Corporation on Monday organised a colourful Eid procession after organising an Eid jamaat at the old trade fair ground in the capital鈥檚 Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
The procession began from in front of the Bangladesh China Friendship International Conference Center and ended at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Building in the city.
The procession featured eight beautifully adorned horses, 15 horse-drawn carriages, a buffalo cart, traditional drum-band and puppets of Arabian nights including Aladdin, Jin, Nasiruddin Hojja and more.
The participants of the rally also carried flags, vuvuzela, toys, kites and other elements which portray the motifs of 400-year-old tradition of Dhaka.
Besides, the festoons carried by people emphasised the moral of Eid with citizen responsibility to clean the city.
More than ten booths were serving traditional sweets including semai and laddu at Manik Miah Avenue.
A musical performance by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was held after the rally where renowned singer Alam Ara Minu, Washim Kabir Palash and Rafi Talukdar recited popular Bangla songs including Ramjaner Oi Rojar Shese Elo Khusir Eid.
Local government adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan attended the procession and spoke after the rally.
DNCC has been holding a two-day Eid fair featuring more than 200 stalls of crafts and foods at Bangladesh China Friendship International Conference Center. The fair is open for all.
Dhaka University also organised a procession titled Eid Shovajatra on the campus.
The procession was participated by its vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, academic pro-vice-chancellor Professor Mamun Ahmed with other faculties and leaders of different students organisations.
