Lalon Sangeet exponent Farida Parveen passed away at a hospital while undergoing treatment in Dhaka on Saturday.

She was put on life support at the Universal Medical College Hospital at Mohakhali. She died at about 10:15pm, said Asish Chakroborty, managing director of Universal Medical College Hospital.


Farida Parveen was born at Shawl village under Singra in Natore on December 31, 1954.

Given her outstanding contribution to popularising the Lalon songs, Farida Parveen won various awards, including the Ekushey Padak in 1987, the National聽Film Award for best female playback singer in 1993 and the Fukuoka Prize from Japan in 2008.
