Popular playwright, actor and director Sadhana Ahmed’s new literary work titled Selected Plays is now available at different bookshops.
The book is a collection of the playwright’s six plays, which has been published under the banner of the publishing house Chandrabati Academy.
Dhrubo Esh is the cover artist of the book.
Sadhana Ahmed said that the six plays on which the book titled Selected Plays published had been produced on stage and each play was published separately in book form. ‘But those books are no longer available at bookshop.’
‘In addition, many readers, viewers, acquaintances and well-wishers from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India, informed me in various ways of their desire to read the plays. Their inspiration has motivated me to tie the six plays together,’ added the playwright.
Although drama is also a form of literature, in the reality of Bangladesh, everyone’s attention is focused on theatrical production, she mentioned, stressing, ‘But when the staging of plays stops, the literary heritage is also damaged because the manuscripts are not preserved.’
Sadia Sobahan Sara, a student of Khulna University, completed her MPhil research on the title ‘Sadhana Ahmed’s Plays: Subject Diversity and Form-Making’ in the 2022-2023 academic year, she mentioned.
Currently, Aradhana Mondal, a senior research fellow at Kazi Nazrul University in West Bengal, India, is continuing her PhD research on Sadhana Ahmed’s plays, she said.
‘This information has also inspired me to publish the plays again,’ said Sadhana Ahmed.
