Poet and translator Sabera Tabassum’s collection of translated poems in Bangla of Indian actress and poet Meena Kumari Naz is now available at different bookshops.
Published under the banner of the publishing house Journeyman Books, the book titled Meena Kumari’r Shairy contains 34 poems.
Poet Meena Kumari Naz, popularly known as the ‘Tragedy Queen’, is regarded among the finest and greatest actresses in the history of Indian film.
Sabera Tabassum told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the entire life of Meena Kumari had been torn between intense love, loveless compromise and oppression.
‘She had stories of wandering and choosing the path of solitude in her life. After I realised the unique tone and power of her poetry, I started translating her selected poems from Urdu,’ she said.
Readers can buy Meena Kumari’r Shairy at bookshops, including Prothoma, Pathak Shamabesh and Baatighar in the capital. The book can also be purchased on online platforms, including Rokomari.
Sabera Tabassum’s literary works include Rayati Bhumi, Johannesburg-e Sona Niye Jeyo Na, Kolahole Nei Sei Pakhi, Sohodora, Mari O Madhurja and Gulzar-er Kabita.
