
Indian Border Security Force pushed 32 more people into Bangladesh through different border points in Thakurgaon, Dinajpur and Meherpur districts on Tuesday.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has reached 1,336 amid tight security measures taken by the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police along the border.
Of the fresh push-in incidents, seven were pushed into Bangladesh through a border point under Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon, 13 through Birol upazila in Dinajpur district and 12 through Mujibnagar upazila in Meherpur district, according to the BGB headquarters.
At least seven people, including two women and three children, were pushed into Bangladesh through the Chanduria border outpost area under Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon district at about 1:30am on Tuesday, said a BGB-42 Battalion press release.
The BGB detained seven Bangladeshi people and handed them over to Pirganj police for verification, the release said.
The release said that 13 Bangladeshis, including two women and nine children, were pushed into Bangladesh through the Enayetpur BOP area under Birol upazila in Dinajpur at about 4:30am on Tuesday and BGB detained them.
It said that the detainees were handed over to Birol police station.
In the primary interrogation, the detainees told the BGB that they went to India’s Hariyana and Delhi 10 to 15 years ago through middlemen by crossing the border, the release said.
They said that Indian police arrested them eight or 10 days ago and took them near the Bangladesh border on Monday.
BGB-42 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin said that they had urged their Indian counterpart to hold two separate company commander-level flag meetings.
At least 12 people entered Bangladesh through a border point under Mujibnagar upazila in Meherpur district between 3:00am and 4:00am on Tuesday, according to BGB officials.Â
BGB-6 Battalion in Chuadanga commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan said that the BGB detained them and the detainees claimed themselves the residents of Kurigram district and went to India’s Haryana state about 17 years ago.
‘We have handed them over to Mujibnagar police for verifying their identities,’ the BGB official said.
According to Bangladesh authorities, Bangladesh has 4,156 kilometres of border with India, of which some 180 kilometres fall on different water bodies and 79 kilometres on the Sundarbans.
