The interim government has decided to procure at least 40,000 body-worn cameras for the police with the aim of increasing security at polling centres during the 13th national elections expected to be held next February.

The procurement plan was finalised at Saturday’s high-level meeting attended by chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, home adviser retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and CA’s special assistants Khuda Baksh Chowdhury and Faiz Tayeb Ahmed, said the CA’s press wing on Sunday.

Quoting Faiz, the press wing said that Yunus instructed officials to expedite the procurement and ensure proper training in the device features for thousands of police personnel.

‘We are aiming to procure the bodycams by October so police officers can receive adequate training in the device’s key features, including artificial intelligence capabilities,’ Faiz said.

According to the press wing, Bangladesh authorities approached three companies from Germany, China and Thailand to supply the cameras.

Police officers and constables would wear the devices on their chests while on election duty.

The national election is expected to be held in the first half of February 2026.

At the meeting, plans for launching an application named ‘Election App’ for the forthcoming polls were unveiled.

The Election App would provide comprehensive information on the election. The application would also feature candidate details, updates on polling centres and interactive accesses for submitting complaints.
