Bangladesh national team senior assistant coach Mohammed Salahuddin has submitted his resignation and is set to leave after the forthcoming Ireland series, confirmed the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday.
Salahuddin, who was appointed for the post in November last year, came to the BCB office at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday to submit his resignation letter.
‘Senior assistant coach of the national cricket team (men’s), Mohammed Salahuddin, has submitted his resignation to the Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO. He will leave his position at the end of the upcoming Test and T20I series against Ireland,’ the BCB said in a press release.Â
Salauddin’s resignation comes days after the BCB announced that Mohammad Ashraful had been appointed as the specialist batting coach for the Ireland series. In the absence of a designated batting coach, Salahuddin has been working as one.Â
However, the BCB didn’t confirm whether Salahuddin mentioned any reason for his intention to resign.Â
The chairman of the BCB’s cricket operations, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, said that they would discuss Salahuddin’s resignation internally.Â
‘He [Salahuddin] has expressed his desire to step down after the series against Ireland. We will discuss the matter internally before making any further comment,’ said Fahim.Â
It was learnt that Salahuddin might explore opportunities abroad, likely in Afghanistan, where several coaching roles have been vacant recently.Â
Previously, he worked as the head coach of Singapore in 2014 and led the team in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4.
This was Salahuddin’s second term in the Bangladesh national fold after he had previously served as an assistant coach and fielding coach of the national team from 2006 to 2010. He also worked as a specialist coach at the BCB National Cricket Academy from 2010 to 2011.
Salahuddin holds ACC-Cricket Australia Level 3 accreditation and is one of the most successful local coaches, having won multiple Bangladesh Premier League and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League titles with the teams he has coached.
In November last year, Salahuddin had been appointed as the senior assistant coach till March 2025. His contract was then extended and was supposed to run until November 2027.
