Adviser to the youth and sports ministry of the interim government, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, said that the changes would come to the Bangladesh Cricket Board as per the guidelines of the International Cricket Council.

Since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, most of the BCB directors, including its president, Nazmul Hasan, who was an MP of the then ruling party, are in hiding, and their absence has made the board's routine work difficult.

As the president is yet to show up, the sports adviser advised looking for legal aspects regarding the appointment of a president, as the BCB has many international events coming up.

‘BCB is a federation under the ICC. We cannot take a decision on this matter. We have suggested that those who are the directors of BCB will look into how the matter can be resolved within the legal framework,’ he said on Sunday.

‘They will report back to us later on whether someone can be appointed for the interim period. BCB is an autonomous body; we can't make the decision. We can take suggestions from BCB and we can give them suggestions.’

BCB director Mahbub Anam, Khaled Mahmud, Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, Akram Khan, Jalal Yunus, Ahmed Sazzadul Alam Bobby, Kazi Enam, and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury held a meeting with the sports adviser at the secretariat.

The board directors, however, are yet to know the whereabouts of the BCB president after the fall of the government.

‘Of course, for a federation to function, all its organs must function. The person who holds important duties like the president is absent. But we will keep the process going on,’ said Asif.

Asif emphasised the importance of ensuring security for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by Bangladesh from October 3 to 20.

‘We have talked to the Bangladesh Cricket Board about the Women's T20 World Cup. Among many matters, the most important is to ensure safety to this end,’ he said.

Noting that some work needs to be done at the state level to ensure safety, he stated, ‘I will talk to Dr Yunus sir about this in detail today [Sunday] at Jamuna (State Guest House, the office and residence of the interim government's chief adviser).’

Mentioning that professor Muhammad Yunus is a sports-loving person, Asif said: ‘He will help us in this matter.’

He further said that the interim government will ensure security from the state level. It will try to resolve several matters, including travel restrictions in some countries and infrastructure-related issues.

Speaking on another topic, he stated that the name of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development will be changed to Bangladesh National Institute of Youth Development in all areas of the country.
