The police have arrested seven leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies for their involvement in recent sabotage activities in the Ashulia area, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The arrests took place during overnight raids between Saturday night and Sunday morning across the Shimulia, Yearpur, and Pathalia unions.


Abdul Hannan, officer-in-charge of Ashulia police station, confirmed the arrests to reporters.

Among those detained are Shakti Prasad Ghosh and Harunur Rashid from Shimulia union Jubo League, Mamun Dewan from Yearpur union Jubo League, Annadas Prasad Ghosh, Bhulanath Sutradhar, and Shariful Islam Gafur from Shimulia union Awami League, as well as Ashraful Islam Nazrul from Pathalia union Awami League.

According to the OC, the arrests followed specific intelligence reports, and the suspects were involved in incidents of arson, vandalism, and clashes in the area.

‘There are multiple cases against them related to sabotage and violence,’ the OC said, adding that the detainees would be presented in court after the completion of legal procedures.
