At least five more people died of dengue and 1,034 others were hospitalized across the country in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, including the latest, this year a total of 307 people died and 76,026 others were hospitalized with the viral fever.
Of them, 6,164 people were hospitalized in the first six days of November while 29 others died of dengue at the same time.
On Wednesday, they reported 10 deaths due to dengue and hospitalisations of 1,069 people.
Among the new deaths, three were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation areas, while one each from Dhaka North City Corporation and Mymensingh division.
The Directorate General data also showed a rising trend of dengue deaths and hospitalisation.
According to the data, at least 10 people died of dengue in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, 3 in May, 19 in June, 41 in July and 76 in September. No death was reported in March.
Besides, the country recorded hospitalisation of 1,161 dengue patients in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, 10,684 in July, 10,496 in August and 15,866 others in September.
The vector-borne disease dengue has become a serious public health concern in the country over the past several years.
A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to the data.
Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3,21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2,44,246 hospitalisation between 2000 and 2022, the data showed.
Last year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 reported cases. A total of 100,040 patients recovered during the period.
