At least seven people were killed and 32 others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Faridpur and Meherpur districts on Wednesday. 

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· JU Correspondent reported that a female student of Jahangirnagar University was killed as a truck hit her husband’s motorcycle, on which she was riding pillion, at Meherpur Sadar.


The victim, Farhana Wahed Ami, 23, a fourth-year student of the Department of English, hailed from Hotelbazar area of Meherpur Sadar.

Meherpur Sadar police station sub-inspector Faruk Hossain said that the accident occurred at about 9:30am near Fatehpur on the Meherpur–Ramdaspur road.  

‘She died on the spot while her husband received injury’, SI Faruk told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

Following the family’s request, the body was handed over without an autopsy after completing legal formalities, he said, adding that the truck driver with the vehicle fled the scene.

In another incident, JU Correspondent reported that a 66-year-old man, Nazrul Islam, was killed after being hit by a Rajdhani Paribahan bus while crossing the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar’s Radio Colony area.

Nazrul, a farmer from Nilphamari’s Domar upazila, had been visiting his sister in Dhaka.

Local residents detained the driver with bus and handed them over to the police.

The victim’s body was sent to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar as authorities informed his family of the incident. 

Savar Model Police Station OC Jewel Miah said that police are investigating the incident and legal proceedings are ongoing.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that three people, including a woman, were killed and 12 others injured in a head-on bus-truck collision in Baikhola area of Basail upazila in Tangail.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident took place around 3:00 pm on the Dhaka-Tangail highway when a rod-laden truck collided head-on with a bus, leaving one bus passenger dead on the spot and 14 others injured, said Basail Police Station officer-in-charge Jalal Uddin.

The injured were taken to Tangail General Hospital where two of the passengers succumbed to their injuries.

In another incident, the BSS reported that two people were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident in Purba Sadardi area under Bhanga upazila of Faridpur.

One of the deceased was identified as Shamsunnahar Begum, wife of sub-inspector Nazrul Islam.

The accident took place around 10:00am when a bus of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ hit another bus of ‘Euroline Paribahan’ from behind, causing the bus in front to lose control and fall into a roadside ditch.

Bhanga Highway Police Station OC Md Rakibuzzaman said that some of the injured were admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex while others were sent to Dhaka for better treatment as their condition deteriorated.
