The education ministry issued a circular on Tuesday, making the director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Professor Muhammad Azad Khan, Officer on Special Duty.

Professor Azad Khan, who had been serving as the director general, tendered his resignation to the ministry on October 7.

His decision followed an unusual move by the ministry, which, on October 6, issued a circular calling for applications to recruit a new head for the directorate.

On Tuesday, the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the ministry issued another circular confirming that Professor Azad Khan, a professor of political science, had been made OSD at the directorate.

He had joined the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on February 20, 2025.

Some officials within the directorate have alleged that there were irregularities during his tenure, contributing to the ministry鈥檚 decision.

Since the fall of the Awami League-led regime in the July uprising of August 2024, the directorate has seen its director general position change three times. Professor Azad Khan was appointed as the third person to assume the role earlier this year.
