Director general of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque in Narayanganj on Wednesday said that the force would ensure maximum security during immersions of the goddess Durga on Bijaya Dashami scheduled for October 2.

‘We will be on alert at immersion sites to ensure maximum security during immersion of the goddess Durga on the river marking the Vijaya Dashami,’ he said after visiting Ramakrishna Mission Ashram Puja Mandap in the city.

The BCG DG said that they were responsible for overall security of temples and mandap in coastal and riverine areas of the country, including Dhaka, Chattogram and Narayanganj.

‘Our special diving team is always ready to deal with any untoward incident at idol immersion sites,’ he mentioned, calling upon all concerned not to carry extra people on the boats during immersion and those who did not know how to swim should not enter the river.

Hoping that the religious festival will be celebrated in a peaceful, safe and festive atmosphere, the BCG DG said, ‘Public awareness campaign is being conducted alongside round-the-clock patrols to avoid unpleasant incidents. So far, no untoward incident has occurred.’
