A local leader of Juba Dal, youth front of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was shot dead and 10 others were injured during a clash between the BNP and Awami League, activities of which are now banned, in Narsingdi on Monday.

The clash broke out at Alokbali union under Narsingdi sadar upazila on Monday morning, leaving one dead and 10 others from both sides injured.


The deceased is identified as Sadek Mia, 42, son of Roop Mia of Muradnagar village of Alokbali Union.

He was the joint convener of the union Juba Dal.

Confirming the matter, additional superintendent of police of Narsingdi Kalim Ullah confirmed the death of a man in a shootout by miscreants in Alokbali char area.

‘There have also been reports of several injuries. The situation in the area is currently normal,’ he added.

According to local people and the police, a tense situation prevailed for several days between the two groups over the control of Alokbali in Sadar upazila.

BNP district organising secretary Aminul Haque said that the activists of fascist Awami League and its youth front Juba League were behind the attack to establish dominance in the area.

Narsingdi police superintendent Menhazul Islam also said that additional security measures were already taken to maintain law and order in the remote area.

Drives were under way to arrest those involved in the killing, the local police said, adding that no case was filed yet.
