The road blockade protesting the rape of a Marma girl was partially eased on its fourth day, Monday, in Khagrachari.

Meanwhile, the identities of the three Marma youths killed during violent clashes in Guimara upazila on Sunday have been confirmed.


The deceased are Athui Marma, 21, of Debalchari Chairman Para in Sindukchhari Union; Athrau Marma, 22, of Sang Cheng Gulipara in Hafchhari Union; and Taiching Marma, 20, of Ramsu Bazar Battala in the upazila.

Guimara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the identities on Monday afternoon.

The Jumma Chhatra-Jana, a platform of indigenous youth protesting the incident, announced via their official Facebook page that the blockade on the Chattogram鈥揔hagrachari and Dhaka鈥揔hagrachari highways was eased from 12:00 noon on Monday.

A leader of the platform stated that the blockade has been relaxed temporarily to allow treatment for the injured and burial arrangements for the deceased. It will remain eased until further notice.

The three youths were killed on Sunday during clashes in Guimara upazila amid protests against the reported rape of a 12-year-old Marma girl.

At least 20 people were injured in the violence, including 13 army personnel and three police officers, according to local sources.

OC Enamul Haque reported that the situation remained stable as of 4:00pm Monday, with no fresh gatherings of protesters in the area.

Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, and other law enforcement agencies have been patrolling the region since morning to maintain order.

According to reports, the 12-year-old girl was raped by three Bengali youths on the night of September 23 while returning home from private tuition in the Singinala area of Khagrachari around 9:00pm.

The victim鈥檚 father filed a case the following day at the Khagrachari Sadar Police Station against three unidentified men.

So far, the police have arrested one suspect, Shayan Shil, who has been placed on a six-day remand by a Khagrachari court for further interrogation.
