
At least eight people, including four members of a family, were killed in road accidents in Cumilla, Munshiganj and Gazipur between Thursday night and Friday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Cumilla reported that four members of a family were killed in a road accident in Paduar Bazar area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were Mohammad Omar Ali, 80, his wife Nurjahan Begum, 65, their elder son Abul Hashem, 50, and younger son Abul Kashem, 45, all residents of Hosenpur village in Barura upazila of Cumilla.
Abul Hashem was driving the private car at the time of the accident.
Moynamoti Highway police station officer-in-charge Iqbal Bahar Majumder said that the accident occurred at about 12:30pm.
‘A passenger bus was attempting to cross the highway from the wrong direction on the Dhaka-bound lane at Paduar Bazar U-turn. In an effort to avoid the bus, a lorry lost control and overturned, crushing the private car and a nearby CNG-run auto-rickshaw,’ he said.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that a female garment worker named Namita Rani was killed after a Leguna lost control and hit an electric pole at Sreepur in Gazipur on Friday.
Sreepur police station officer-in-charge Abdul Barik said that the woman died on the spot and the police sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The Legauna was seized but the driver managed to flee the scene, he added.
United News of Bangladesh reported that three youths were killed and another was injured as a speeding private car rammed into them on Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj at about 11:00pm on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Awlad Hossain, 23, Habil, 22, and Kaium, 22.
