Three people, including a couple, were killed and another was injured when a speeding car overturned on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway in Sholghar area under Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj on Thursday.

During the accident, the driver was not in the car while one of the passengers was driving the car.


Besides this, a man was killed and one more was injured in Dhaka when a truck hit a motor cycle and 15 other were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Jhenaidah same day.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that the incident took place near the passenger’s shed in the district at about 6:00pm on the Dhaka-bound lane.

The deceased are Md Arman Hossain, 25, son of Arju Mia from Choto Dewanpara under Sarail in Brahmanbaria, his wife Rumana Akhter Raisa, 20, daughter of Ruman Hawlader from Mithakhali under Mathbaria in Pirojpur and Tanzil Ahmed, 27, son of Rahim Bhuiyan, from Shinepukur under Dohar in Dhaka.

Srinagar Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Dewan Azad Hossain said that two died on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital. The sole injured was taken to the Srinagar health complex.

Hasara highway police station officer-in-charge Md Abu Nayem Siddique said that before the accident the car driver went to a toilet at a fuelling station.

Tanzil, who knew the driver through his father, then drove off the vehicle at over speed and eventually lost control over the vehicle after it hit a divider, he said.

The police official also said that car then veered off the road and turned over.

Replying to a question, Abu Nayem said that they had sent the bodies to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsies and forensic reports to find out to see if anyone was under the influence of drug during the accident.

‘The probe will bring out under which circumstances the accident took place,’ he said and added that the car owner would file a case with the Srinagar police station against the sole survivor of the accident, Rahim, 21.

The car owner would file the case as the vehicle was heavily damaged, he added.

In Dhaka, a pillion rider of a motor cycle died when he fell from the vehicle and a truck ran over him on the Banasree main road near Farazy Hospital Limited at about 2:00pm.

The deceased is Emon Ali, 26, son of Mohsin Ali from Khude Bausia under Bagha in Rajshahi. He was a sub engineer.

Quoting local people, police said that Emon was sitting behind the motor cycle of a man named Habibur Rahman who fell after the motor cycle after a clash with a rickshaw and Emon also fell from the vehicle and the truck ran over him.

Habibur brought Emon to the Farazy Hospital from where he was sent to the DMCH, he said.

Emon declared dead at the DMCH at about 3:00pm and his body was kept in the hospital for autopsy.

At the same hospital Habibur was also undergoing treatment.

DMCH police outpost in-charge Mohammad Faruk confirmed the accident.

In Jhenaidah, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported, 15 people were injured when a bus of ‘Golden Line Paribahan’ collided head-on-with a truck at about 6.30am.

The accident took place on the Kaliganj-Jibannagar road in front of the Tushar Ceramics factory at Maheshpur upazila, leaving 15 people including bus passengers injured.

The injured were taken to different hospitals while the seriously injured truck driver and his assistant were taken to the Jashore General Hospital.

Maheshpur police station officer-in-charge Sajjadur Rahman Sajjad confirmed the incident.
