
Bangladesh Air Force on Wednesday paid tributes to the memory of the War of Independence veteran Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman to mark the anniversary of his 54th martyrdom.
The BAF observed the 54th martyrdom anniversary… with due solemnity,’ said an Inter Service Public Relations Directorate statement
According to the statement, the BAF organised special prayers at mosques of its every base and unit and special prayers were also offered seeking divine blessings of the departed soul while his noble heroic sacrifice in the Liberation War was remembered with high esteem.
In Dhaka, BAF’s air officer commanding of Bir Uttam AK Khandker Base Air-Vice-Marshall Mohammed Khair Ul Afsar took part in a special prayer and offered for the salvation of his departed soul at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard at Mirpur and commemorated his contribution with great solemnity.
Senior officers from Air Headquarters and BAF bases of Dhaka area were also present on the occasion.
The statement also said that different BAF-run schools and colleges organised different programmes highlighting the heroic stupendous contribution of Matiur Rahman during the Liberation War, which earned him Bir Shreshtha title, the highest gallantry award of Bangladesh.
Prayers were also offered as well in the BAF schools and colleges seeking divine blessings for him.
