The National Citizen Party has suspended its joint member secretary Mahin Sarker for breaching party discipline.
A party press release signed by NCP joint member secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat Monday night said that Mahin was suspended from his post and responsibilities as per directives from party convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhter Hossen.
‘This suspension order will take effect from today and remain in force until further instructions,’ the press release said.
The notice, however, mentioned nothing about the discipline that Mahin violated.
The NCP informed the media in a message on early Tuesday that Mahin did not seek permission from the party’s convener and member secretary before submitting his nomination paper for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union elections.
‘This has been considered a grave violation of the party discipline,’ read the message.
Mahin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the party did not serve any show-cause notice or give him a chance to defend himself before the suspension.
Mahin is a master’s student in the Bangla department at Dhaka University and collected nomination papers on Monday for the post of general secretary in the upcoming DUCSU elections, he said.
A central NCP leader told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that, being a senior leader of a national political party, taking part in the student union elections could draw controversy and place the party in an awkward position.
The DUCSU elections are scheduled to be held on September 9.
