Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested actress Shomi Kaiser from a residence at Uttara in the capital early Wednesday.

An on-duty officer at the Uttara (West) police station confirmed that Shomi Kaiser was arrested in connection with an attempt to murder case filed after the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina.

Following a mass uprising, the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5.

Shomi Kaiser, a former president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh, is expected to be produced before the court later today.

Shomi Kaiser is the daughter of Shahidullah Kaiser, a renowned journalist and novelist who was abducted by the Pakistan Army and its collaborators in December 1971, during the final stages of the Liberation War, and was never seen again. Shomi鈥檚 mother, Panna Kaiser, was a former Awami League lawmaker.
