
The Interim government has established a three-member committee to investigate Wednesday’s acts of violence and deaths that occurred in Gopalganj over the National Citizen Party’ rally in the district.
‘The committee will be chaired by Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He will be joined by two additional secretaries, one from the Ministry of Public Administration and another from the Ministry of Law and Justice,’ said a press statement shared by the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
This committee has been mandated to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit its findings to the Chief Adviser's Office within two weeks.
The interim government reiterates its commitment to upholding justice, maintaining public order, and ensuring that those responsible for any unlawful acts and violence are held accountable in accordance with the law, according to the statement.
At least four people were killed and scores were injured in a series of clashes between the members of the law enforcement agencies and the activists of the Awami League in Gopalganj district town on Wednesday.
The clashes occurred over the National Citizen Party rally in the town to mark the first anniversary of the July uprising.
The Gopalganj district administration has enforced curfew from 8:00pm on Wednesday and 6:00pm on Thursday in the whole area under its jurisdiction.
