
The Border Security Force of India pushed at least 46 individuals into Bangladesh through border points in Moulvibazar, Khagrachari, Meherpur, and Feni districts on Thursday.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has reached 1,681.
The BSF has so far pushed at least 159 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India, into Bangladesh.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that 25 people were pushed into Bangladesh through two border points in Sreemangal and Kamalganj upazilas under Moulvibazar district early Thursday.
Sreemangal police station officer-in-charge Md Aminul Islam said that the BSF pushed in19 people through Kakmara border point early Thursday.
The police officer said that the detainees -- six men, nine women, and four children -- would be handed over to their relatives as the detainees said that they hailed from Narail, Jashore, and Noakhali.
They had been working in different parts of India, including Mumbai, for long, he added.
Border Guard Bangladesh’s Battalion-46 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel SM Zakaria said that the BSF also pushed six individuals through Dalai border point in Kamalganj upazila.
‘BGB personnel detained them immediately after they were pushed into the Bangladesh territory,’ he said, adding that preparations were under way to hand them over to the Kamalganj police station.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Khagrachari reported that the BSF pushed nine more individuals, including women and children, into Bangladesh through Shantipur border in Matiranga upazila of the district on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, Matiranga upazila nirbahi officer Monjur Alam said that nine individuals were pushed in through Shantipur border.
The group was currently being housed at Belchhari High School, he said, adding that efforts were under way to verify their identities.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Meherpur reported that the BSF pushed eight individuals -- three men, three women, and two children -- were pushed into Bangladesh through Rangmahal border in Gangni upazila at about 6:00am.
The detainees said that they hailed from Khulna, Satkhira, Narail, Jamalpur, and Mymensingh districts.
Assistant director of BGB Battalion-47 in Chuadanga, Md Jakirul Islam, said that they were handed over to the Gangni police station for further legal process.
Quoting BGB Battalion-10 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Feni correspondent reported that the BSF pushed an elderly couple and their two children into Bangladesh through Feni border.
They were later handed over to the police, he added.
Detainee Tahidul said that he had entered India with his wife in 1979 in search of work. The couple had been living there ever since and had two children there.
Recently, they were detained by Indian police in Mumbai and later transferred to Tripura, from where the BSF pushed them across the border into Bangladesh.
