At least two patients, both women, died of Coronavirus and 15 others were infected in the past 24 hours till Friday 8:00am in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services recorded the Covid-19 casualties only two days after it had issued an 11-point health advisory to prevent a potentially fresh wave of the disease.
One of the deceased was in her twenties and the other was in her seventies, while one was from Dhaka and the other from Chattogram, according to a DGHS press release issued on Friday.
Including the latest, three people died of Covid-19 this year, so far.
Earlier on June 5, an octogenarian man living in Dhaka died.
Coronavirus was first detected in the country on March 8, 2020.
So far, 29,502 people have died of the disease in Bangladesh, according to the official account with the cumulative number of Covid-19 patients reaching 20,51,800.
On Wednesday, the DGHS issued a warning about the rise of new Covid-19 Omicron sub-variants, potentially triggering a fresh wave of infections.
The directorate in its 11-point directive urged people to avoid public gatherings, wear face masks and practise frequent handwashing.
Due to the rising infection rates in India and increasing domestic positivity, the DGHS emphasised precautionary measures.
Its director general Md Abu Jafor also advised booster doses for individuals over 18, pregnant women, seniors and people with a weak immune system, urging them to visit vaccination centres.
A lack of public awareness about the increasing risk of a fresh wave of the disease is still evident as people frequenting different public places are seen ignoring the DGHS advisory. No government steps to implement the directive were noticed either.
