The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on the chair and managing director of Meghna Group of Industries, Mostafa Kamal, over graft allegations.

The court also slapped travel bans on health adviser Nurjahan Begum’s former personal officers Mohammad Tuhin Farabi and current PO Mahmudul Hassan and National Citizen Party suspended joint member secretary Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir over graft allegations.

The court’s judge Md Jakir Hossain issued the travel bans following three separate petitions submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

The ACC in its petition said that there were allegations of embezzling Corporate Social Responsibility funds of different banks by Suchona Foundation chairperson Saima Wazed and others.

It has already formed a seven-member probe team to inquire into allegations of causing loss to state funds by abetting the implementation of political agendas against Sajeeb Wazed and other members of Sheikh Hasina’s family.

‘Mostafa Kamal, who is also being probed over the same allegations, is trying to flee the country with his family,’ the ACC said, adding that if he manages to succeed in leaving the country, it can hamper the investigation.

The court issued a travel ban on health adviser Nurjahan Begum’s POs Tuhin Farabi and Mahmudul Hassan and it also instructed the authorities concerned to block the national identity cards of both the POs for the sake of probe.

The ACC in its petition said that an inquiry was being conducted into allegations of acquiring Tk hundreds of crore by misusing power, negotiations, extortion, tender business and corruption against Tuhin Farabi and Mahmudul Hassan.

The ACC also found a huge amount of wealth during probe and both the officials had been trying to transfer their illegally acquired assets and money and making attempts to flee away from the country, said the ACC seeking the travel bans on them and block their NIDs.

Tuhin Farabi was removed from the position of the PO of the health adviser amid allegations of corruption against him on April 21.

Meanwhile, the court imposed travel ban on Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir and instructed the authorities concerned to block his national identity card as an inquiry was going on against him on graft charges.

The ACC in its petition alleged that an inquiry against Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir remained pending for his alleged involvement in acquiring Tk hundreds of crore of money by misusing power, negotiations, extortion, tender manipulation and corruption and irregularities.

The ACC officials came to know that the accused might leave the country to avoid inquiry against him so that a travel ban should be imposed on him and his NID should be blocked immediately.

On April 21, Gazi Salah Uddin was relieved of the post of joint member secretary of the NCP following allegations of corruption against him.
