A Dhaka court on Sunday issued a travel ban on former environment, forest & climate change minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and his family members over allegations of corruption.
Judge Md Jakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge鈥檚 Court passed the order following an application from Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Saidussaman.
His other family members are Saber鈥檚 wife Rehana Chwdhury, his son Hamdan Hossain Chowdhury , daughters Raimah Chowdhury, Alisha Babar Chowdhury and son Araj Alam Chowdhury.
The ACC in the petition stated that an inquiry is going on against Saber Hossain over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through abusing power.
Apart from this, Saber Hossain, also a former lawmaker of Awami League from Dhaka-9 constituency and his family members have a huge amount of illegal assets in Canada, United States of America and the United Kingdom, it said.
Sabar and his family members were attempting to flee the country.
If he flees, inquiry into the allegations brought against him might be hampered. So, an order is needed to prevent him from doing so, said the petition.
