Bangladesh Udichi Shipligoshthi on Friday protested at an attack on its national anthem singing programme in Bogura on May 14.

The protest was held at the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka on the day.

Different cultural organisations, including Ganatantrik Sangskritik Oikya and Charan Sangskritik Kendra attended the protest rally presided over by Udichi vice-president Habibul Alam.

The event began in the morning with the national anthem by the members of Udichi and protesters.

With patriotic songs and slogans, they protested at attacks on the national anthem and vowed that they would protest at any conspiracy against the unity of people of the country and its history of the War of Independence.

Poet Rahman Mafiz said in his welcome speech that every political party should clear their stance on the War of Independence, national sovereignty and democratic rights of the people.

‘No political party can stand against the rights of women, rights of national minorities and freedom of speech,’ Mafiz said, adding that a vested group had been organising mob violence in different places to stop cultural events.

Kamal Hossain Badal, convener of Samaj Anushilan Kendra, said that the current interim government helped the vested group who stood against the independence of the country.

Jamshed Anwar Tapan, general secretary of Udichi said that the government should clear its stance on the national anthem because those who attacked the national anthem singing programme were not arrested yet.

Different district branches of Udichi including Jashore, Gopalganj, Sylhet, Naogaon and Faridpur also organised protests over the issue.
