The interim government on Tuesday approved a 10-day holiday for the government employees from June 5 to June 14 for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims.

Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be celebrated in the country on June 6, subject to the sighting of Zil-Hajj moon.

The decision was made at an advisory council meeting chaired by chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser鈥檚 Office in the capital Dhaka.

Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, informed about the decision at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

He, however, said that all government offices would remain open on May 17 and May 24, two Saturdays which are usually weekly holidays, to compensate for the extended leave.

Earlier, on October 17, 2024, the advisory council approved the list of 26 holidays for the 2025 calendar year. Of the total holidays, there are 12聽general holidays while the rest 14 holidays are set by the government executive order.

In 2025, the number of holidays has increased by four days compared with that in the previous year.
