At least five people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gaibandha, Patuakhali and Munshiganj districts between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The accidents were caused by reckless driving that continued to take a toll on lives across the country.


A man was killed after a car hit a rickshaw van on the Airport Road in Dhaka’s Banani area early Friday. The deceased is Hanif, 40.

Confirming the matter, Banani police officer-in-charge Rasel Sarwar said that the incident took place near the Masranga Television office at about 1:00am.

A case was filed with the police station regarding the incident, the OC said, adding that no one was arrested as of Friday at 9:00pm.

Two young co-riders of a motorbike were killed and two others injured in a road accident in the Dholvanga Bazar area of Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha on Thursday night, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

The deceased are Koushik Ahmed, 22, of Bishnupur village, and Srabon, 23, of Shyampur village, both under Mohodipur union in Palashbari upazila.

Palashbari police officer-in-charge Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto confirmed the incident, saying that the accident occurred at around 10:00pm on the Gaibandha-Palashbari road.

According to him, four youths were heading towards Palashbari town on a motorcycle. As they attempted to overtake a loaded truck near Dholvanga Bazar, the rider lost control and crashed into the railing of a bridge.

Koushik and Srabon died on the spot.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Barishal reported that a retired primary school teacher died and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a three-wheeler Mahendra at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali on Friday morning.

The victim, Ruhul Amin, 60, had recently retired from Madhya Patua Government Primary School under Champapur union.

The accident occurred at around 9:00am near the Kalapara-Patuakhali road.

Ruhul Amin was riding the motorcycle when it collided with a Mahendra coming from the opposite direction and carrying passengers from Amtali to Kalapara.

The four injured Mahendra passengers—Al Amin, 35, Idris Mia,45, Tania, 40, and Dulal Akon, 47—were referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for better treatment.

Kalapara police officer-in-charge Jewel Islam said that an investigation was under way and legal action would be taken.

A pickup driver was killed in a road accident in the Anarpura area of Gazaria along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Munshiganj, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Munshiganj correspondent reported.

The deceased is Sajal, 45, son of Nazrul Islam from Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district.

According to Bhoberchar Highway police outpost in Gazaria, the accident occurred at around 1:30am on Thursday night.

The pickup, heading towards Dhaka, rammed into the rear of an unidentified vehicle in the Anarpura area of the highway. The front of the pickup was severely damaged in the collision, resulting in the death of driver Sajal, said Md Shawkat Hossain, in-charge of Bhoberchar highway police outpost.
