A Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader has been accused of allegedly sexually harassing and threatening to kill a Mahila Dal leader in Gaibandha.
The victim, president of the Saghata upazila Mahila Dal, made the accusation against Selim Ahmed Tulip, secretary of the Saghata upazila BNP and chairman of the Ghuridah union parishad, at a press conference at the Abiram Hall in the town on Saturday.
The victim claimed that a long-standing dispute had been ongoing for three years between her and Selim over the position of president of the Saghata upazila Mahila Dal.
She claimed that after Tulip failed to get his preferred candidate elected as president, his frustration and resentment grew, leading to sexual harassment and death threats against her.
The victim also accused Selim of orchestrating an attack on her brother, Shapon, secretary of the local Juba Dal unit, who was severely beaten by Selim and his associates.
She alleged that despite an investigation, the district BNP had failed to take any action against Selim.
The Mahila Dal leader also added that Tulip and his associates allegedly attacked Anwar Hossain, a reporter for the Jai Jai Din newspaper, and his family.
Concerned for her safety the victim urged the police and administration to ensure her protection.
