
Five people were killed and 15 others injured after a bus fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram highways in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla on Friday.
Quoting Chauddagram fire service in-charge Biplab Kumar Nath, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Correspondent in Cumilla reported that the driver of a double-decker bus of ‘Relax Paribahan’, which was en route from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar, lost his control on the highway and the vehicle subsequently plunged into the ditch.
Two of the deceased were identified as Mohammad Badrul Hasan Riyad, 26, of Banskhali upazila of Chattogram, and Mohammad Hossain, 30, of Cox’s Bazar.
However, the identities of the remaining three individuals could not be known immediately.
The injured were taken to Chauddagram upazila health complex.
A case was filed with Chauddagram police station in this regard, said the fire service official.
Meanwhile, at least four more people were killed and one other injured in road accidents in Sherpur, Pirojpur and Satkhira districts on the day.   Â
Two people were killed and one was injured after a motorcycle clashed with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Sherpur’s Sribardi upazila, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Correspondent in Sherpur reported.
The deceased Hridoy and Babu, and the injured Zahir, all from Kurikahnia union, were on their way to a mosque for Jumma prayers, riding on a motorcycle.
Sherpur district Sadar hospital superintendent Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.Â
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Correspondent in Barishal reported that a Jubo League leader was killed in a road accident at Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur.
Nazirpur police station officer-in-charge Shah Alam Howlader said that the deceased Paritosh Roy, 44, was the Jubo League president of ward no 9 of Matibhanga union in the upazila.
Paritosh was traveling to a local market in a van when it collided with a Pirojpur-bound Dola Paribahan bus in Ruhitlabunia area on Pirojpur-Gopalganj road, the OC said.
After the collision, Paritosh fell from the van down, and was run over by the bus.
Meanwhile, an elderly van driver was crushed under a truck in Binerpota Bazar area on Satkhira-Khulna highway in Sadar upazila of Satkhira, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
The deceased was identified as Md Quddus Gazi, 71, of Satkhira Sadar upazila, said Sadar Thana OC Mohidul Islam.
