The United States has welcomed the interim government’s commitment to strengthening international labour standards through the 2025 Bangladesh Labour Act Amendment Ordinance, calling it a critical step toward improved worker rights and fair competition.

A message issued by the US embassy in Dhaka said that the amendment represented ‘a crucial step toward supporting a level playing field for workers and businesses in Bangladesh and the United States.’

Washington also expressed optimism about the reform process, noting, ‘We look forward to the ordinance’s swift passage into law by the next elected parliament.’

The United States has long encouraged reforms in Bangladesh’s labour governance, workplace safety, and unionisation environment, particularly in labour-intensive sectors linked to global supply chains.

The new BLA amendment is part of broader commitments undertaken by the interim government to align national labour legislation with international conventions and expectations of global trading partners.
