Two schoolgirls were rescued in Sylhet in the early morning on Monday, one day after their going missing from Comilla.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the matter of rescuing the girls from Hazrat Shahjalal’s shrine area in the city.

He said that a police patrol team noticed the girls, aged about 14-15 years, roaming suspiciously in the shrine area at around 4:00am Monday and took them to the victim support centre of the Kotwali police station.

The SMP officer said that the victims stated in the police interrogation that they had left their home at Comilla at around 9:00am on Sunday to attend an exam of their school.

‘They boarded an auto-rickshaw on the way to the school and they cannot recall what happened after that. As they regain consciousness, they found that they are in Sylhet,’ Saiful Islam told journalists quoting the girls.

‘The victims have been handed over to their families in the afternoon. The police have already started an investigation to find out that how they reached Sylhet from Comilla,’ the SMP officer said.
